What is LHR – Perianal
Laser Hair Removal (LHR) for the perianal region is a cosmetic dermatology procedure designed to reduce and remove hair near and around the anus.
It uses laser energy to destroy hair follicles, providing a long-term solution compared to waxing or shaving — especially beneficial in a sensitive, hard-to-reach area.
Things you should know before the treatment
- A consultation and patch test is essential to assess skin type, hair color, and laser safety.
- Avoid waxing, plucking, or bleaching the hair in that area for at least 4 weeks before treatment.
- Do not tan or be sunburned before or after the session to prevent pigment issues.
- The procedure may cause a slight stinging or snapping sensation — tolerable with proper cooling.
- Multiple sessions (typically 6 to 8) spaced 4–6 weeks apart are needed for optimal results.
What happens during the treatment
- Preparation & Cleansing – The area is cleansed, shaved (if needed), and protected with proper eye or body shields.
- Laser Application – Controlled pulses of laser light are applied carefully to the perianal zone.
- Sensation – You may feel mild warmth or snapping — use of cooling devices mitigates discomfort.
- Soothing & Aftercare – Cooling gel or calming cream is applied to reduce redness or sensitivity.
Recovery and Results ( what to expect )
- Mild redness or slight swelling may appear but typically subsides within a few hours.
- Avoid sun, hot baths, saunas, and friction for at least 48 hours post-treatment.
- Hair will begin to shed over the following weeks as follicles weaken.
- Each session targets follicles in active growth; spacing of 4–6 weeks allows for effective reduction.
- Over time and with consistency, hair becomes finer, sparser, and may disappear — resulting in smoother, low-maintenance skin.
